The Batman (2024)
That is until the Dark Knight starts walking slowly toward them and satiates our taste buds with his eerily iconic line, “I am vengeance.” Before proceeding to give the thug a well-deserved, bone-crushing beatdown that only has us wishing for more. There’s a certain uniqueness to Pattinson’s iteration of Batman and we guarantee you’ll want to follow him on his quest to cement his secret identity in future sequels.
Birds of Prey (2020)
Let’s shift gears and bring the focus to the supervillains, shall we? Birds of Prey is a follow-up story to Harley Quinn’s fate and wanton ramblings. The movie is set directly after Quinn has broken up with the Joker (cue the ending of Suicide Squad 2016). All her immunity granted graciously by the Crown Prince of Crime has gone up in flames and Quinn is now busy fending for her life and dignity while also making some new, queer friends.
Quinn gets to square up against the Black Mask and Victor Zsasz both of whom have a disgusting fetish for mutilating the face of living, breathing people. Their choice of torture of course. A fresh band of misfits including the Huntress, Canary, and Cassandra Cain get ready to take on the Black Mask and his empire in thrilling fashion.
Joker (2019)
Keeping up with the supervillain lineup, we have the main man and his original villain arc depicted quite perfectly by Joaquin Phoenix. The Joker wasn’t always a twisted, crafty, bad joke spewing, homicidal maniac as many may think. Once upon a time, the Joker was just Arthur Fleck; a regular guy trying to keep up with the waves of life and find a suitable career for himself.
Sadly, the world took advantage of his subtlety. After being bullied, played with, tortured (mentally too), and rejected by a woman he cherished dearly, Fleck snapped and kicked off his villain arc in stupendous fashion & flair. By that, we mean killing off the TV host he looked up to on live television and then starting a riot that would eventually lead to him becoming the Crown Prince of Crime.
Aquaman (2018)
This one’s for those of you who are into action and cheeky commentary peppered with CGI goodness. The Aquaman is Arthur Curry’s origin story and him finding out what exactly his lineage is. The antagonist here is Curry’s own half-Atlantean, half-human brother Ornn who considers himself the true heir to the throne. The story is what you get when you take old-fashioned, “brotherly” rivalry and mix it up with sea dwellers who travel in sexy underwater vehicles and jetpacks.
Nobody could beat Jason Momoa when it came to flexing acting chops suitable to be an underwater King and he is coupled up with Amber Heard’s brilliant version of Queen Mera. The Manta is another villain who goes up against Curry from time to time and we guarantee you’d have an absolute blast checking out the scenes in here.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)
The regular Justice League movie fell prey to many controversial reviews mainly because many scrumptious scenes were cut out along with a boatload of edits before it was shown on the main screen.
Zack Snyder, after a long digital rally on Twitter, got his version of it to release, which maintained much of the scenes that had been made. Along with a more gnarly Steppenwolf. Give this one a watch; we’re sure you’re going to end up loving Justice League.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Wonder Woman, the iconic Amazon warrior princess, is back in a thrilling new movie. Directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, this action-packed adventure follows Diana of Themyscira as she embarks on a mission to save the world from an ancient evil. After discovering the truth about her family’s legacy, Diana leaves her home and sets out into the outside world for the first time. With help from Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and his team of allies, she battles danger at every turn while trying to stop the villainous God of War Ares from taking over mankind. Along the way, Diana learns what it takes to be a true hero while unraveling secrets that have been buried deep within her own past. With powerful visuals and a stellar cast, Wonder Woman is sure to be an action-packed thrill ride that has audiences cheering for more.
