Sopranos Prequel Official Release Date and New Title

The prequel film to HBO’s classic series ‘The Sopranos,’ has received an official release date and a new title. The prequel has been going by the name ‘The Many Saints of Newark.’ ‘The Sopranos’ is a classic series which first aired in 1999. It is about the life and times of New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano. It also chronicles his family life drama. The series ended with one of the most controversial finales in TV history.

The prequel to this series is created by David Chase and Alan Taylor, an episode director. Both of them will revisit the family. The story is set in the 1960s and ’70s when lead character Tony was growing up in the city of Newark. Younger Tony will be played by James Gandolfini’s son Michael. Moreover, the other cast of the prequel is Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Alessandro Nivola, and John Magaro.

The prequel of ‘The Sopranos’ was going by the name ‘The Many Saints of Newark,’ but in order to simplify it, it got a new title, ‘Newark.’ Moreover, the official release date for this film is September 25th, 2020.

The plot of ‘Newark’ is not completely known, but we do know a couple of things. The story partially takes place during the Newark riots of 1967. This was a period which was flashed back to in the Sopranos season 1 episode ‘Down Neck.’ As Tony was only 8 during that time and Michael Gandolfini will be playing him in his late teens, it is probable that the story will stretch into the 1970s.

Likewise, the details about the characters haven’t been released yet. However, we know that Alessandro Nivola will play Dickie Moltisanti and Michael Imperioli will be revealed as Tony’s grandfather.
