Smart builds cars perfect for the city driving and with their new concept, they have reached new minimums. The vehicle that was presented at the 2018 Paris Motor Show is called the Forease. In its core, it is the Fortwo but only without the top.
This is not the first crazy concept that the company has introduced. We have had a chance to see the 2001 Crossblade that was later produced and the 2011 Forspeed. The Smart was already tiny, and by removing the roof, the new model looks even more radical. This makes the car perfect for the urban environment but only when it is sunny.
The new concept is electric, but Smart refused to reveal anything about the powertrain. It is the reason why we need to refer to some other models and see what’s going out there to get the idea of what could be placed under the skin of Forease. The current Fortwo EQ has the electric motor that delivers 80 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque. The coupe version can reach 60 mph in 11.4 seconds whereas the top speed is 81 mph. These are the similar numbers we can expect from the Forease.
Smart is expected to become an all-electric brand by 2020. In the USA, only electric Smart models are sold, and this started with the 2018 MY. The gasoline vehicles weren’t even that popular across the pond, and the company will only gain from such a move.
At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Smart celebrates the 20th birthday and they marked it with the introduction of the Forease. They will obviously keep producing fuel-efficient vehicles with great maneuverability, but who knows what the future holds for this carmaker.
