Made In Abyss Season 2 – Latest News

May 20, 2019

A new film called Made in Abyss the Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul (Gekijoban Made in Abyss: Fukaki Tamashii no Reimei) has finally started production, which is great news for the Made in Abyss fans. The not so great news is that, with this new sequel in the works, the Made In Abyss Season 2 has definitely been put on ice until further notice.

Another piece of good news is that Sentai Filmworks has released a stream of Made in Abyss dubbed in English, so the fans across the world can enjoy it.

Akihito Tsukushi announced the new film with the following tweet: “Thank you to the Abyss narrator and everyone on the cast and staff. Cheers for the good work! So, what’s that? Are you coming for the official announcement at seven o’clock? Alarm calling!”

Mariya Ise, Miyu Tomita, and Isawa Shiori, the voice actors voicing Reg, Riko, and Nanachi, were very emotional when they heard the news, to the point of tears.

“I really love Made In Abyss so much, and I want to see a sequel!” said Mariya, who lend the voice to Reg.

The exact date of the premiere of the third Made in Abyss hasn’t been set yet, but it is expected in January 2020.

First appearing in 2012, Made in Abyss manga was created by Tsukushi. It was published in Web Comic Gamma. The first season ended in 2017 when the first six volumes were issued in a tankobon hardcover format. In the same year, the manga received a prestigious Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year for 2017 award. In 2018, Volume 7 was released in Japan.

The English translation was released by Seven Seas Entertainment. So far, the first five volumes have been published, with the Volume 6 expected in July 2019. Hopefully, Volume 7 will follow by the end of the year. Until then, there are plenty of fan-translated versions to keep you occupied.

Made In Abyss English dub has been released by Sentai Filmworks, with Luci Christian and Brittany Lauda voicing the characters of Reg and Riko.

You can catch Made in Abyss with English Dub on Amazon Prime Video.

The third movie will complete the trilogy, so far consisting of Made in Abyss Movie 1: Tabidachi no Yoake (Journey’s Dawn) and Made in Abyss Movie 2: Hourousuru Tasogare (Wandering Twilight).
The first movie has a United States premiere in March 2019, at Regal Cinema in Los Angeles. The premiere was attended by the director Masayuki Kojima, composer Kevin Penkin, music producer Hiromitsu Iijima, and producer Shinpei Yamashita.\

An additional scene will be included in the second film to provide the connection between the first two movies and the Dawn of the Deep Soul, not originally included in the first season of the manga.
Kinema Citrus, tasked with the creation of Made in Abyss anime, tried to avoid the usual pitfall of manga to anime adaptation. Most of the anime studios condense the manga content to the point where it is almost impossible to follow the story and losing much of the character development. Kinema Citrus managed to create an adaptation that didn’t repeat those mistakes.

So far, none of the studios involved with Made in Abyss series have confirmed the start of production date for the Season 2. This has led to many speculations about the reasons behind the delay, but so far, no official word has been released. Hopefully, we will get to see the next season in 2020, right after the third movie, and not wait until 2021 for the new Made in Abyss episodes.
