Maya wrote seven biographies which only contributed to her fame. The first biography she wrote was in 1969 and it was named ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’. Besides being a poet and an author, Maya is also an essayist, a screen producer, performer, songwriter, singer, and a memoirist. She wrote three essay books, several poetry books, movies, plenty of plays, and television shows. Moreover, she also worked in Africa as a journalist.

Maya Angelou is also well-known for her activist’s endeavors and was one of the Civil Rights Movement’s most famous women. She worked alongside Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. and advocated the rights of for women and black people. She passed away on May 28, 2014, at the age of 86. However, she left a legacy which will be appreciated and celebrated for many years to come.
